Donita Woodcock, lives near Munfordville , Kentucky, in Hart County with her husband Ron and their dog a Shih Tzu, Moses, they have one daughter, Jennifer.
Donita started her career as an artist early in life, doing murals on the walls of her bedroom . Much to her mother’s dismay, and was guided to a more traditional “paper” support for her self-expression!
Since then, with no formal training, Donita has explored every medium that she has had access to. It has just been in the last couple of years that she has seriously pursued painting in watercolor. Having a “ Eureka ” moment, during some instruction from her friends and mentors; Mary Lou Hall, and Nona Atkisson. It was like coming home. She had found her medium! Donita fell in love with the flow and brilliance that watercolors offer. Some of her favorite watercolors are from Maimeri Blu, Daniel Smith, DaVinci and American Journey. She paints mostly in transparent watercolors.
In 2005 she won several honorable mentions in, realistic art, collage, drawing and a third place at the Kentucky State Fair in transparent watercolor, upon her first time entering.
In 2006 she won first place and Best Watercolor of Show with her transparent watercolor painting, “Reflections of A.D. & Edna – A Tribute to My Grandparents.” click here to view Her mixed media collage entitled, “Nest”, which is a new adventure for her, took third place. She also has captured, “Artist of the Month” from the Central Kentucky Art Guild, several times.
Many of her subjects are close-ups of lone flowers, and animals. In the singularity of her subjects she hopes to portray the wonder and awesome beauty of God’s creation. She says her Faith is the driving force in her life. She is trying to find new and different ways of expressing these facts through her art.
One of Donita's favorite colors is purple and hence her catch-phrases, "Every painting needs a little purple in it!" and "Into each life a little purple must fall!"
Donita’s works have been on display at the State Theater, The Cobbler’s Cafe and other Elizabethtown (Ky) Business exhibits. Also, Munfordville CURVES sports a mural painted by Donita.
Donita is a new member of the Louisville Artisans Guild.
She is a juried member of CKAG (Central Kentucky Art Guild), and is currently serving as President.
She is also a juried, charter member and treasurer of SCKA&CG (South Central Kentucky Arts & Crafts Guild).
Donita is available for commission work and also for teaching groups or for private instruction . She is a gifted speaker and teacher!
Her paintings hang locally in Crain’s Gallery located in Munfordville , Ky. and various places around Elizabethtown, Ky.
Many of her original paintings and Giclee prints hang in private collections all over the country.
